It would’ve been different if I had courage, even an ounce of it. But I was a coward from the day I met you, Ryan Crowley. I still am. In the end it doesn’t matter. The bottom line is the same. It’s my fault.

When the unthinkable happens Carly Cavanough is left beaten, betrayed, and devastated. Her best friend doesn’t understand. Her parents won’t listen. Everyone in her life turns against her. She’s alone. Completely alone, except for Ryan Crowley, the boy she’s been crushing on for years. She won’t admit to him what she can’t admit to herself. But he understands without words. He knows more about what she’s going through than she can possibly imagine and he knows what it will take to start the healing.

With Ryan’s help Carly begins to piece together the fragments of her once perfect life and embarks on a journey of love and healing, just long enough for the rug to be pulled out from under her again. Can she find the strength and will to pull herself together to save Ryan and herself when their lives are on the line?
I’ve been sitting here for weeks trying to figure out how to review this book. I’ve found it hardest to write a review about a book that touches home, that speaks to your soul. Not because the book is bad, quite the opposite actually. It’s hard because there’s so many emotions and feeling flowing through you that you don’t even know where to begin.

Danielle Sibarium is one of my favorite authors. I fell in love with Jordan Brewer from her book For Always, and like any diehard fan, I’ve read every book she’s published since I stumbled upon her. For Always was my favorite but it’s now tied with To My Hero. This isn’t a book for the fainthearted. It deals with a tough subject that people face EVERDAY but it goes unnoticed. It’s a subject some girls wouldn’t dare to bring up, because somehow we feel like it’s our fault. I say we because I’m in that category. Rape isn’t something that should be joked about and it saddens me to see the media and the world shy away from it. All because it’s not brought to the forefront, doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist or happen.

Trust me when I say it does happen and sometimes it’s the people you least expect it to come from. I applaud Danielle for tackling this subject, for doing the research and asking the questions. She wrote this book tastefully and accurately. It’s by far, in my opinion, the best book she’s written so far. So you’re probably wondering about the book by now right? Well here’s a little bit on it.

Carly likes this guy Ryan, but the time never seems right. When the chance arises she’s cut short by her parents and a guy is practically forced upon her to date. It’s expected with her family and the chance of her and Ryan diminish but the feelings never go away. Showing up late to the party has Carly’s lack of a better word, boyfriend angry and when he sees her talking to Ryan it doesn’t help the situation. By the time Ryan finds her it’s too late. The damage has been done, but where do you go from there. Is there somewhere to go? Ryan doesn’t give up and this is why I fell in love with him. He tries to help Carly as much as he can, but you can only go so far before giving up.
But Ryan’s ex-girlfriend is also playing a roll into the drama that’s trying to separate Ryan and Carly, but who’s really to blame? Her or Ryan? Trust is a big thing in relationships and without trust you don’t have that solid foundation. So can Carly trust Ryan? Can Ryan trust Carly? This book is an emotional roller coaster that will have you feeling each and every emotion to the maximum extent. It will have you crying in spots, hoping for the future and leave you extremely happy. Sometimes love conquers all and sometimes you just need to blog it out.

I have a thing with reading. I like... no LOVE music and no matter what situation I'm in, I can always turn to music to help me get through it. Danielle's books always strike a cord in me and the song "Never Too Late" by Three Days Grace is one of many that remind me of Carly's struggle. I can hear Ryan singing it to her, because if we all face it.. it's Never Too Late.

This Legend of the Dreamer anthology features playlists, essays on the magical world of the Order, deleted scenes from Light of the Moon (Book 1), an author interview, and a special look at the sequel, Shadow of the Sun (Book 2). The pulse-pounding short stories The Witch's CurseThe Warrior's Code, and an exclusive story called The Enchanter's Fire are included for the first time in print.

In The Witch's Curse, Magda cannot stop her heart from running rampant with the beating drum of love. Whenever her eyes find Samuel, she can feel the pull of strings so vividly alive against her heart. But for Magda, love goes against fate; her destiny as a witch forbids her to need anything but the dark binds of magic. Soon, the witch's curse begins to call to Magda. To deny her love for Samuel would be unthinkable, but to defy her destiny would be impossible. Before the curse can consume her, Magda must decide between Samuel and destiny, and her heart may beat too savagely for anyone to stop.
In The Warrior's Code, Warriors fight for justice, freedom, and peace. Becoming a Warrior is an honor given to few, and twelve-year-olds Zackery Solts and Kate Black will do anything to have a place among the elite. Zack and Kate must compete against eighteen others and pass three deadly tests of courage and skill. Above all, they must be strong because while the dangers of the tests are unknown, one thing is clear: not everyone will survive.

In The Enchanter's Fire, Lily Woods is a girl on fire. Literally. Her element burns as fierce as her heart, and very few enchanters want to get close to a girl with such radiant power. None except for Shane Spencer, a boy as calm and cool as his icy element. But fire and ice don't mix, and the element Lily burns inside her is growing stronger. Unstoppable. Soon, Lily's fire may be the end of them all. Taking place during the final, pulse-pounding moments of Light of the MoonThe Enchanter's Fire burns with action and romance.
This is probably going to be a really long review and I'm not sorry because well, this book is awesome! Shades of the Stars is an anthology, so its a compilation of short stories and some of David James' essays. I'm going to review each short story, because he deserves that.

The Witch’s Curse

"I have to believe in love."-Magda

So here's the thing that I love most about David James... No matter what words he chooses to speak they all make you feel. They all make your heart break a little more when something sad happens, when a choice has to be made. But the most amazing thing is, no matter what the words say there's always and underlying meaning. I wasn't sure I was going to read this book, not because I didn't want to, but because it's a Novella and they usually always leaving me wanting to know more. However I did want to know more about Magda and Samuel, but I was satisfied with what was told. Do I have questions or wonders? Of course but isn't that what makes a good book, good? Not knowing everything leaves something to the imagination, though David's imagination is amazing, I like to leave it up to my own to fill in the day to day's with Magda and Samuel.

"We are the same, Magda. You are my star, and I am yours." -Samuel

I fell in love with Calum in Light of the Moon, even Kate held a place close to my heart.. being honest I didn't care much for Magda. After reading The Witch's Curse made me understand her a whole lot more. Have I mentioned that I cried? Yea well I am a huge sap when it comes to characters in books. I form this bond somehow with all the character's I read about and when something sad happens to them I feel it to my core. That's what makes a great writer though. If they can convey the feelings to you, the reader, than they did their job.

"Our love is infinite."-Samuel

So David James congratulations on achieving something some people only dream of. You are able to convey to your readers what your characters are feeling and that's what makes you an amazing force in the world of literature. I can't wait to read what you write next.

I have to admit I highlighted so much in this Novella. lol. So many phrases spoke to me, touched me, but one of the best one's I have to say that hit home to me was this one:

"How can this world be all there is, Samuel? The sky is so vast, so infinite in darkness at night. How can there be nothing beyond what we can see?"-Magda

Sometimes we forget the possibilities of more than us being here. What if David is right? What if the stars hold the secret to something much more vast than we can comprehend? What if we are all just shells of something much bigger and greater? Maybe thats the message or lesson we have to learn. We are all but single stars shinning in a vast sky, but when we come together form constellations that mean so much more as a group, united.

The Warrior’s Code

We only met Zack briefly in The Light of the Moon but there was something about him that stuck with me. I was thrilled when David James said he would be writing a short novella about him and his journey. I won’t dive into it because it is a novella and I tend to get carried away, but I will say I cannot wait for Shadow of the Sun. For more than one reason.

One of the things that I love about David is the way he writes. Its beauty at its finest. It’s the reason we love to read, to get lost in the world of fantasy. It’s the way he describes things for example,

“Her smile lit up her face and I found myself reminded that she was pretty in the same way a hurricane was; dangerous and deadly beautiful.”

It’s the imagery that keeps you rooted to your spot. He has a way to captivate you with his words and leave you playing out the story in your mind. It’s truly amazing. I was captivated from the first page and didn’t stop until it was finished. Now I’m left wanting more. I want to know more about Zak and Kate. The undefined relationship but you know there’s more to it than what is said, not romantically, but definitely more than either of them will admit. The need to be accepted into a home, into a family, to be part of something greater.

There’s also a moment when Zack is looking at Marcus, if you’ve read Light of the Moon, you know who Marcus is, makes me wonder if he should have trusted what he was seeing. So what happens when a Warrior is tested? What are these tests? So what happens when you become a Warrior?

“Death was mine to take—life was finally mine to live.”

The Enchanter’s Fire

*sigh* Yes I just started with that. One of the things I absolutely love about David James is the way he writes. He somehow has a way of making the bad sound beautiful. An image can be brought up to forefront of your mind by the magnificent description David provides. Not only can you picture the words unfolding in front of you like a movie reel, but you can feel it. You can feel the fire burning inside from the way he describes love or pain.

Lily is a fire wielder but she hasn’t learn to control it. Falling in love with another fire wielder to have him break her heart is something we can all relate to on some level. Granted we can’t wield fire but it doesn’t distract from the emotional connection we can all form from it. This is why no matter what, I would read David’s books. It’s because he can make you feel a million emotions in a short story, have the words so vivid it’s like you are watching it on a screen. It’s lyrical in its own way that it sets it aside from everything else I’ve read. It’s absolutely stunning, and its just not one of his books, they all are like that.

"Sometimes you have to think with your heart and act before you can understand what you're doing. Sometimes we all need a little help when it comes to love." -Zack

Shades of the Stars combines so much love, strength, and diversity into one book that there's no way you can't feel something. It brings emotions you never thought possible up to the surface, it connects you to events that have happened in your life, and changes a piece of you even if you don't realize it at first. That's what makes a good book, what makes an amazing writer, the fact that they can pull you into their story and you get lost. David James definitely knows how to do that and these short stories are no exception to that. So go grab this book, yes book, because it's too beautiful not to have sitting on your shelf.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Helen was a complete bookworm from the time she could sound out the words on the page. She’ll always be thankful for her mom allowing her to read at the kitchen table during mealtimes. Reading naturally led to writing by the time she was eight or nine – she started with fantasy stories, dabbled in contemporary fiction, and even tried a little romance. MYTHOLOGY is an urban fantasy/love story and in that way reflects some of her earliest writing interests.

Things that inspire Helen to write are bowls of ice cream with lots of Magic Shell, the lack of cats or other things she’s allergic to in the vicinity, and plugging into playlists with her Neff headphones – the knit ones with the bear’s ears.

Teaser Tuesday

Hey Everyone!! I hope you all have had a fabulous week so far! I'm still trying to get back into the normal routine after having a few days off to enjoy the awesomeness that came from being at UTOPYA CON in Nashville this past weekend. Amazing, meeting authors that I look up to and making new friends, was the perfect weekend. But today is Teaser Tuesday and it's been a while since I've done a teaser from Deviation, so I decided it was time. As of right now Deviation is supposed to release on July 22, 2013 but I might be pushing that back. I'm not sure just yet, but I want to make sure its absolutely perfect before I release it. I've learned a lot since releasing Entrelacen and  I don't want to make the same mistakes with Deviation. If that means pushing back my release date, then that's what I'm going to have to do. I apologize to those of you who are wanting it in your hands already, and thank you for your support. Okay enough of that... here is your teaser. (Subject to change) I hope you like it!

“No, Angel. Obviously I don’t see that. You want to know what I see every time I look in the mirror?” He nods his head, his is jaw clenched and I can literally feel the anger rolling off of him in waves. “When I look in the mirror, all that I see is a broken girl. I see a girl who survived when she should have died, a girl who was bounced around from one foster home to another and told she was just a filthy bitch who would only be good for sex. I see a girl whose dreams died a long time ago and the only thing that keeping me alive right now is drugs and booze.
Happy now? Do you feel better now that you know the truth? Maybe instead of trying to find me you should’ve just stayed clear of me. Maybe death is the only direction left for me to take? Maybe I don’t want you to try and save me.”
I’m so pissed off that my body is actually vibrating with anger. The need to punch something is so great that, it’s exactly what I do. I punch the damn door with so much force that I hear a crack. Angel heard it too and is trying to grab my hand before I punch the door again. I’m so mad that I don’t feel any pain yet. I know I should be crying, collapsing to the floor and writhing in pain, but I’m not. Instead, I’m pulling hands away from Angel and reach into my backpack for what I need.  I pop 2 dream pills and chase them down with some Vodka.
Angel isn’t looking too happy with me right now. I’m sitting on the floor waiting for everything to take effect while he paces back and forth in front of me. He’s pissed off now but I’m not anymore since my little cocktail is finally taking affect. I try to stand up but I fall down. I sigh loudly and Angel, who’s scowling at me, helps me up
“Are you going to let me help you now?” he says, clenching his teeth in anger. It doesn’t faze me, “Whatever Angel, I don’t need your help but, since I can’t exactly drive my bike safely right now, do you mind if I just crash on your couch?” I reply without emotion since I seriously don’t care.

“Umm, no you can’t sleep on the couch. You can go sleep room I got ready for you."

How far would you go for love?

Since losing her parents at 14, young prodigy Dr. Lydia Ashley has focused on one thing: an appointment on the Deep Water Research Command Endure. Now 21, she’s about to realize that dream, but nothing is how she imagined it would be. Her transitional sponsor forgets her, her new lab is in complete chaos, and, as if that weren’t enough, she’s about to discover something so horrific it could potentially destroy all life on the planet.

Daniel Brewer, a noted playboy and genius in his own right, may be exactly what she needs… Or he may make everything worse.

Has she finally found a puzzle she can’t solve?

I got interested in this book when I did the cover reveal of it on our blog. I mean the cover is gorgeous and the synopsis is intriguing. I was a little put off with it being SciFi but I thought what the hell, I need to expand my range a little.  SO DAMN GLAD I DID! Seriously, I had to literally stop myself from reading so I could sleep, being hit in the face with your kindle fire 10 times isn’t fun. But this book was beyond awesome and cannot wait for the next book in the series!
So whats it about right? Lydia Ashley, Dr. Lydia Ashley is genius and when her dream of being part of the Endure comes to life, there’s nowhere else she rather be. Of course the perks of meeting Daniel Brewer might be an influence on her decision, but when he failed to make a good first impression, Lydia was disappointed. Determined to get her department organized and running, she has to work with Daniel to create software to organize data to where its accessible. What Daniel creates is beyond her expectations.

Daniel Brewer is the resident playboy on the Endure and has reputation a mile long. Being late to meet Dr. Ashley has already put a wall up between him and her. Checking her out in front of her doesn’t help his case… at all. He hasn’t met someone to disregard his charms as easily as Dr. Ashely is doing, determined to change her mind about him, he changes his course of action. Instead of flirting with her, he puts his focus into his job, changing his life for something better. When that starts catching her eye, it only fuels his passion of his work.

Then files are found that look incriminating and disastrous. Working closer together to figure out just what was going on in before Lydia got there, Daniel and her set off on research. What the stumble upon is nothing short of life changing… for everyone. Not sure who to trust, Lydia and Daniel talk to the captain, Daniel’s father, and more research is done. Nothing comes without a price and sometimes trying to avoid feelings only intensify them. The chemistry between Daniel and Lydia is beyond explosive and one night changes everything. Literally.

So what did Lydia and Daniel discover? Can they stop it? Does it go deeper into what they thought and is there a way to prove it all? Stumbling upon something that wasn’t meant to be found can have some serious consequences, what will they be? Can they figure everything out in time or will they be too late?

Starla writes beautifully, even with the science to anyone who’s not familiar with it, you don’t feel confused like your missing something. It leaves you intrigued and wanting more. Especially when it comes to Daniel. I love how she alternates POV throughout the book. You get a feel for both aspects since Daniel is tech geek while Lydia is the science geek. I absolutely loved this book and hope the next one will be out soon because I cannot wait to see what happens next. I have so many questions, some that were answered and some that spurred on new questions. YOU HAVE to read this book! If you’re not usually a Science Fiction Romance reader, take the chance. You won’t be disappointed!

Deviation Cover Reveal

If you would have asked me last year what I would be doing right now, I would have never said showing the cover to the next book I wrote. It's been so surreal that I even have one book out there, let alone a second on the way. For everyone who has showed support and have been there for me through it all, there's not enough words to express how grateful I am to have you in my life. So the point of the post is to show you the cover to Deviation right? Well I guess I should do that huh? It's my first attempt at making my own cover so I hope y'all love it as much as I do!

Blurb
It takes just one week to realize that you’re broken, but not unfixable. ONE week to realize everything doesn’t come with a price. One week to fall in love with love. One week to fall in love with you.

Family torn apart at thirteen by a drunk driver.
Fifteen foster homes in five years.
Determined to keep everything at bay, Nevaeh Rodgers will do whatever it takes to forget.

Until she meets Angel Barajas at a party. He can’t keep his eyes off of her. Saving her from a guy at the party and an overdose, he can’t just let her walk out his door. Determined to help her whether she wants the help or not, he sets out to find her and not a moment too soon.

It takes ONE day to realize the relationship you’re in isn’t healthy and leave. TWO days to realize you’re as pathetic as the loser you stayed with. THREE days to get a combination of drugs out of your system. FOUR days to wish life would end so you can take matters into your own hands. FIVE days to be saved. It takes a week to realize that everything each and every one of those days has in common, is the vibrant blue eyes that are staring at me right now.
Excerpt

I’m staring at myself in the mirror of my bathroom. It’s 3 am and I’m fighting with my reflection. Each part of me is demanding to be brought to the surface. The one looking at me is the girl I used to be. She’s begging to be let out, to be more than a reflection. Then there’s me, the one in the here and now. The damaged one looking to take over completely. Fighting. Always fighting, it’s like a never ending battle raging within myself and I can’t stop it. I don’t know how to stop it, I don’t know if I want to. It’s a constant reminder that this is the path I chose. The path so off course that I don’t know if I can ever return to the original one. I didn’t leave bread crumbs like Hansel and Gretel, although those didn’t work out well with them either.
I walk out of the bathroom and go to the bookcase to look for a book. I can see I’m not going to be going back to bed anytime soon, I might as well do something productive. Trying to do something to get my mind off of the war ragging within. Running my fingers over the bindings of the books, head tilted to the right reading the spines, when I come to this worn blue book. It looks completely out of place from the others. Were they look new, you can tell this one is old. It has no writing on the spine, so I pull it out to see what it is. Inscribed on the front in the most beautiful cursive I have ever seen is the word Divinity. Completely intrigued by what this book is about I head over to the lamp by the bean bag, turn it on, and collapse into the bean bag.
Page after page of information on destiny and the paths we are on. Different people’s takes on fate and whether they believe that we are all destined for a certain path. There was a story about how this girl didn’t believe she would ever get back to her given path, her destiny is what she called it. After years of working to right the wrong she’s done in the past, she finally believed she was on her predestined path and was finally happy. I close the book after her story to think about what I’ve read. If they’re right and we are destined for something, what the hell could I be destined for? How can this be the life laid out for me by the fates? The weavers of life. I guess they have a sick sense of humor. They pick people out to have issues to keep themselves entertained.
What if the book holds truth? Can I be like that girl? Maybe I was on the right path up until everything happened and I’ve been deviating ever since. Is there a way to get back to that? To free the girl trapped in the mirror? But if she’s free where would the present me go, into the mirror, or is there a way to merge the two? Maybe accepting all that I’ve done for what it was will be the key to becoming me again.

Shades of the Stars Cover Reveal & Playlist Tour

It's my extreme pleasure to present you with this absolutely breath taking cover to David James Anthology, Shades of the Stars. The cover is so gorgeous that it makes you want it on your book shelf just to stare at its prettiness!

I've had the chance to talk to David on a few occasions and he's just as awesome as anyone would hope for. Not only does he write amazing, but he is amazing. He's the type of person not everyone gets to meet or talk to, but to those that are able to talk to him even once, are forever changed because of who he is. But that's enough of my fangirling, after all it is about the cover and the awesome music that accompanies the stories between the covers.

So without further ado here is the beautiful, gorgeous, breath taking, stunning and any other adjective that can describe this cover! Be sure to add Shades of the Stars on Goodreads Here !!

Shades of the Stars: A Legend of the Dreamer anthology. Shades of the Stars includes the novellas The Witch's Curse, The Warrior's Code, and an exclusive story called The Enchanter's Fire. Exclusive playlists. Essays on the world of the Order. Interviews. Deleted scenes from Light of the Moon. And an exclusive look at the sequel, Shadow of the Sun.

Release Date: July 2, 2013

Now for the amazing music behind the stories!!! Have to say these are some pretty awesome songs and David has some awesome taste! My video is "Angel With a Shotgun" by The Cab. This band is awesome, if you haven't heard of them you need to check them out!

Now why did David choose this song for The Light of the Moon Playlist? This is why:

I listened to this song a lot while writing Light of the Moon. “They say before you start a war, you better know what you’re fighting for.” I realized that love is very much like war. In both there are victims, casualties. In both there is loss, as well as gain. Both are a tricky kind of fight, and I really tried to write about that in Light of the Moon.
